Focal dystonia

After about one decade and a half (since 2003) of research and studies Michele Bajo has developed:

  • a method by which instrumental musicians can prevent focal dystonia from occurring, and
  • approaches for a therapy program (focusing on guitar; general prevention regarding other instruments)

Given the extreme complexity, the intensity degrees and the variety of the disorder, obviously a 100 %-guarantee cannot be given regarding its total, “unlimited” prevention. Nevertheless, the risk a musician exposes herself / himself to can be reduced to a very low level. Once the symptoms appear, which happens quite suddenly, it’s way too late to prevent it.

If you are studying or have studied with teachers who are not knowledgeable or familiar at all with all that, you are at risk already.
